A beautiful Edwardian carved mahogany washstand with figured walnut trim, marble top, mirror and tiled back. This lovely piece has delicate tiles in cream with a muted terracotta floral pattern, which pick up the terracotta colour in the marble top. The original mirror sits above the tiles. Underneath, the mahogany cabinet has two cupboards, with attractive original copper handles. The cabinet is decorated with stylised floral motifs in an Art Nouveau / Arts and Crafts style; the shaped plinths above and either side of the mirror are veneered in walnut. It has original porcelain castors and retains 2 old labels from a moving company.
The washstand was originally designed to hold a wash basin and water pitcher in the bedroom, and could be converted to hold a basin for a bathroom. However it would look equally handsome in a hallway, dining room or conservatory. Please note that the marble top just rests on the wooden base, as is usual for marble washstands.
It is in good vintage condition and has been lightly restored. There are some age-related marks and scuffs on the wood, foxing to the glass, and minor chips to the edge of the marble. The tiles are intact without breaks, cracks or chips. Please examine the photographs and feel free to ask us any questions, or request more pictures.
